Light isn’t just functional—it’s poetic. It shapes mood, directs attention, and transforms a space into a story. That’s exactly what several Belgian brands at Antwerp Design Week are showing us: that light can whisper, embrace, energize, or ground.
In this blog, we meet the lighting minds behind some of Belgium’s most exciting design brands—each of them turning illumination into art, storytelling, and sensation.
Lucide – When design and accessibility meet
Founded in Antwerp in 1992, Lucide has become a globally recognized lighting brand, known for blending form, function and affordability.
Their focus? Making good lighting accessible, inspiring, and sustainable.
“At Lucide, we believe lighting is atmosphere, emotion, and expression. It should elevate your everyday.”
Koen Van Guijze – The artist-engineer of light
If light could make you smile, Koen Van Guijze would be the reason why. His work combines minimalism, brutalism, and wit—with a clear Antwerp signature.
“I want to move people with my designs. Witty but raw. Personal but timeless.”
At ADW, he’s showing his full collection for the very first time—right in his own garden. Each piece is locally made with Belgian ateliers, from locally sourced materials, and sits on the fine line between art and design.
Don’t be surprised if you leave his space feeling both amused and inspired.

ACE Lighting – A city built on light
With over 35 years of experience, ACE Lighting isn’t just a shop—it’s a design institution in the heart of Antwerp.
What makes them special? Their mix of flagship stores, exclusive brands (like KURO.), and a team of lighting consultants who guide both home-owners and professionals through fully custom lighting plans.
This year at ADW, they’re going a step further—inviting speakers from Occhio, Louis Poulsen, and Flos for intimate talks and workshops on Emotional Lighting Design.
“We want people to rethink what light can do—how it can transform not just a space, but an experience.”
Fumaci – When candles become sculptures
Founded by a ceramic-loving candle addict, Fumaci is redefining what candlelight means. Their pieces are handmade in Portugal, filled in Belgium, and designed to outlast the flame.
The ceramic holders are elegant, organic, and surprisingly versatile—once the candle’s gone, they double as decorative interior objects.
“Each movement while shaping the clay changes the final result. That’s what makes every Fumaci piece unique.”
And this year, their Sole XS model—a compact table version—is ready to light up your summer nights.

Mon Dada – Concrete. Colour. Scent.
Originally launched in New York, now handmade in Belgium: Mon Dada combines bold concrete design with soft fragrance.
Their new launches at ADW include:
BOLD: minimal concrete vessels for rich, luxurious candles
OCTO-June: colourful designs for indoor-outdoor bliss
Home Spa: natural, vegan soaps and lotions
“Every piece tells a story. We want visitors to feel the craftsmanship, the care, the joy.”
Whether you're drawn to their scents or their sculptural forms—Mon Dada brings warmth in more ways than one.
The takeaway?
Light isn’t just a switch you flip. It’s a decision. An identity. A design story.
From playful minimalism to sensory indulgence, these Belgian lighting brands are shaping the way we live, feel and connect—one beam, one glow, one flicker at a time.
