Antwerp Design Week 2024: a successful event with big plans for the future

Chairman Geert-Jan Van Cauwelaert looks back on a successful Antwerp Design Week (ADW), an event that continues to attract high-quality buyers and design enthusiasts. The latest edition saw 2500 registered visitors even before the week began, with 54 exhibitors spread over 30 locations, showcasing innovations that elevated the event.

Several companies also served as hosts for other brands, creating valuable cross-industry collaborations.

"Hosting six companies simultaneously in a relaxed atmosphere, where visitors can engage in meaningful conversations, adds significant value," Van Cauwelaert reflects. ADW stands out from traditional fairs by offering a more intimate experience, where visitors can see how brands operate and connect with their workspaces.

International interest was strong, with more foreign visitors than locals, including prestigious companies from Ireland, Poland, and across Europe.

"The goal of ADW is to put Belgium in the spotlight," says Van Cauwelaert. "Antwerp is a tolerant city with a lot to offer visitors."

Slow Design: A Growing Trend

A key takeaway from this year's ADW is the growing demand for slow design—a concept focused on quality, sustainability, and the story behind the product. Van Cauwelaert notes, "Slow design allows us to emphasize the process, the materials, and the social impact, something you can't always showcase at a traditional fair."

Looking ahead to 2025, the ADW team has ambitious plans. They aim to further increase the number of brands per location and continue to elevate the quality of the event. "If we maintain the level of the brands, growth will come naturally," says Van Cauwelaert.
